Boat Charters from Jackson Park Harbor
Chicago's South Side gateway harbor — Hyde Park, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the future Obama Presidential Center.
6401 South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60649
Jackson Park Outer Harbor is the southernmost charter harbor inside the Chicago city limits. It sits between South Shore Cultural Center and the Museum of Science and Industry, with the future Obama Presidential Center going up just inland.
Chartering from Jackson Park is a different experience than chartering from a downtown harbor. Less crowded slips. Wider open lake almost from the moment you leave the channel. The neighborhoods are residential — fewer hotels, but easier loading, easier parking, and a much faster route out into deep water than any North Side or Loop harbor can offer.
Anchored by *Sea Myth* — a 1977 Pearson 323 sloop running out of Jackson Park's outer harbor, with quiet sailing charters that lean toward couples and small groups.

Frequently asked
Why charter from the South Side?
Three reasons: fewer crowds, faster deep-water access for fishing or sailing, and a skyline view from the south that no North Side harbor can give you. If you're staying in Hyde Park or coming up from the south suburbs, Jackson Park is the right call.
How far is Jackson Park from downtown Chicago?
25 to 30 minutes by car via Lake Shore Drive. Metra Electric is 35 to 45 minutes door-to-door from the Loop.
Walking distance from Museum of Science and Industry?
Yes — about a 10-minute walk. Many charter customers combine MSI in the morning or afternoon with a Lake Michigan cruise.
Hotels near Jackson Park?
Hyatt Place Hyde Park (about a mile west) and Sophy Hyde Park (1.5 miles west). Limited compared to Loop hotel density, but workable for an overnight charter.
What boats are based here?
Sea Myth — a 1977 Pearson 323 sloop, 33-foot, 6-passenger sailboat. The boat is a historic Pearson, well-maintained, and runs quiet sail charters out of Jackson Park's outer harbor.
Can we see the skyline from this harbor?
Yes — and from a different angle than the North Side harbors give you. The skyline from off Jackson Park sits framed against Lake Michigan to the north; the photo angle is distinct enough that some Chicago photographers shoot exclusively from this side.
